How To Locate Pre-Spawn Bass | Bass Fishing
Depending where you’re can be found in the two countries, as early as February all the way through May, as those ocean temps begin to hot up, fish move into a feeding mode. That’s known as the pre-spawn feed. They’ve got to beef up before they go lay those eggs. So today, I’m gonna talk to you about targeting those fish applying rend baits, like Reaction Strike’s XRM-8 0MD. Rip baits are so effective because the erratic gesture truly draws “members attention” from fish a long ways out. But capacities necessary to delay this bait in the ocean tower devotes the fish time to actually react to come up and strike that bait. All right, rigging, I start up with 8 to 12 pound mono or fluorocarbon, and then I pair that up on either a spinning or a bait casting attire. But I necessitate a medium to medium-heavy activity baton so I can really get the action out of that lure.
But then I want a nice, soft baton tip so that if I get any fish to burn, I don’t pull that fix out of the fish’s mouth. There’s a little of absorption from that tip, and it allows that fish to get hooked. Retrieval, just like we spoke in previous rend bait videos, we want to simply do two to three yanks on slack cable, so we can create that erratic gesture. But then we generate that bait a pause.
The delay is what’s gonna generate those fish time to react. Now, the length of the delay is dependent on work of the fish. As a rule, earlier in that pre-spawn duration, February, early March, that water’s still cold, I generate it a longer delay. I’ll generate it up to 5, sometimes even 10, seconds of a delay. I know there’s fish in the following areas. But then as that ocean begin to warm up, those fish get most aggressive and start feeding heavily, you just got to give it a one to two second delay. And they’ll often come up and react. Hey, guys, when it comes to targeting these pre-spawn fish, location is probably the most difficult factor. When happens is no matter where you’re situated in the two countries, as we come out of the cold wintertime, if we get a string of nice, warmer dates that ocean begin to hot up, these fish will start thinking about spawning.
A quick fact, spawning takes a lot out on the bass. It’s very stressful on them. That’s why they make sure that they’re amply fed and fattened up before they go into the spawn mode. What happens is those fish were beginning to should be considered spawning regions, which are the back of coves, the back of creek paths, any sort of flats with a gravelly foot. And they’re gonna start making such a ways towards those areas. So for pre-spawn fish, you’ve got to anatomy out how to intercept those fish on their mode. So what happens is those fish start off on their primary lagoon objects. So you identify those primary lagoon objects, and then you move in from there. What I like to do is early on in the pre-spawn, I want to start from the primary lagoon and start labouring the secondary objects and any structures I work back in the spawning regions. But if it’s later in the season, if we’re into March, April, May and I imagine these fish had now been truly traveled a lot, I’ll actually go to the back of coves, and I’ll work my way out to try to find those fish.
A quick area tone to clarify what secondary objects are. When you have a creek canal, the first two objects that are in the primary lagoon on either area, those are gonna be primary lagoon objects. But as you go into that creek channels , no thing how big-hearted that creek is or how big-hearted or small those little points are that go back in there, those are all secondary objects. Early in its first year, these fish “re gonna be all” out more towards the primary lagoon, the deeper ocean. But as we get later in that pre-spawn towards the spawn, they’re gonna be mode back a lot closer to the actual regions they’re going to spawn. And the important thing is formerly you pinpoint where those fish are, if they’re halfway in the back of coves and occasions, you can actually then repeat that process in all of the other coves in the lagoon and generally be able to find those fish as well.
When it comes to targeting those active, pre-spawn fish, a rip bait like Reaction Strike’s XRM-8 0MD is perfect with the erratic gesture and getting those fish’s notice but then imparting that nice, long pause to give those fish is necessary to react.
